West Chester District Court Information

Despite being the seat of the County Court as well, West Chester is also home to district court 15-1-01. With jurisdiction over the third, fifth, sixth and seventh wards of the City of West Chester, it is responsible for nearly half of the magisterial court cases in the area.

At this level, the magisterial district courts handle hearings like landlord-tenant disputes, small claims courts, civil cases and DUI. It also handles all preliminary hearings before they are sent to the sentencing period of the judicial process.

The Hon. Mark Bruno presides over this district court, which is located in the county courthouse, despite being a separate judicial body. It is available via phone at (610) 431-4814.

The address of the Chester County Courthouse is 201 West Market Street, West Chester PA. The Court of Common Pleas is reachable by phone at (610) 344-6000. The entire courthouse and its offices are open Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30-4:30.

The Chester County Court System is comprised of 13 full-time judges and 3 full-time senior judges in addition to the president judge, the Hon. James P MacElree II and the 19 magisterial district court justices.

The Offices of the Public Defender are also located in the courthouse. Lead by the public defender, John R. Merrick and the first deputy defender, Nathan M. Schnecker, they are available by phone at (610) 344-6940.
